will and jen

jen and will were married on feb 23rd at st. luke's united methodist in the chapel. it is kind of a fun challenge because you can't take pictures inside the chapel. so fortunately they have cool windows to shoot thru and it makes for a fun frame. they had their reception at hotel icon and gregory smith there was absolutely wonderful and so helpful! lisa tran did the flowers and they had macario with satirical effect caricature co. do really fun caricatures of all of the guests. it was so fun to watch him draw and everyone waiting around had a blast watching. that was so unique and everyone loved it! jamie casco and his band played awesome jazz all night. i met jen and will over a year ago when they first started planning their wedding. i has been so fun to get to know them and share this last year with them.

saturday morning

well josh spent most of last week flying back and forth from the port bring the blackhawks home. saturday was his last flight so the kids and i went to watch them come in and take some pictures. it had been a while since they had the chance to get in and play. we didn't stay long because i had to get to austin to do a fun shoot with brooke. i will post more on that later. i hope all of you had a great weekend!!!

meet baby declan

i thought i would post about this sweet baby boy that was born the day before valentine's day. we are so excited for our friend's the laughlins! i love photographing sweet newborns. especially now that mine are 5 and 3. but i really love getting to hang out with cute babies then go back to my own house. here is their announcement. isn't he adorable?!!!

here is katie and michael. they are getting married in houston in april. they both live and work in NYC. we did this shoot all around montrose. i loved this little shop with these yellow chairs, some strange alley on the way back to the car. then we went to tacos a go go for a taco and a beer. i have never been there or even herd of it but it was so fun! katie told me she loved having her picture taken and i had a blast just shooting away. i loved her blue dress and those shoes!!! i can't wait for their wedding!!!

wii would like to play...

FINALLY! the muehlendorf family got a wii! we wanted to get one for the kids for christmas but as you know wii's sold out fast. so today we got one!!! we were in houston for jen and will's wedding (which was so fun) and katie and michael's e-shoot. it was a great weekend! i will post on them soon. here are a few pics of josh and the kids playing. i hope all of you had as great of a weekend as i did!

new friends

i am so excited! as you may have noticed i have added a few friends to my links bar on the left. it all started when ami from elizabeth ann designs left me a blog comment...ummm yesterday i think! so i checked out their blog back to see who she was. i was pleasantly surprised to find such a cool blog. so i left her a comment back that lead to a few emails and now she is going to do a feature on me! ok well not me, but my photography. a 2007 wedding to be exact. i can't wait to see what they put together and of course i will share it on here! thru the elizabeth ann blog i came in contact with vane at brooklyn brides and anne at perfect bound. I am so excited to share these awesome recourses with you guys. i will feature each one of them very soon telling you all about them. in the mean time check them out!

sarah and russell

meet sarah and russell. we did this shoot in georgetown and austin on sunday. the weather was amazing! this was the first time i met sarah and russell too. russell was in iraq with josh the past year and sarah is in law school in lubbuck. the ceremony will be this may in austin. i am so looking forward to it! they are getting married outside in the morning which i am most excited about because of all of the fabulous light all day. they are such a fun couple!

date night

so josh's awesome date he had planned and reserved for over a week, came to a screeching halt. we had our sitter come over and we drove to temple which is about a half hour drive to go to our 8:00 dinner reservation. and as soon as we got there we were told all reservations were at least an hour or more behind. even if we would have wanted to wait outside we couldn't have because we had a sitter and it was a school night. so we got back in our car even before the valet had time to take it back. he said they overbooked by far. i wonder how many other people's valentine's they messed up. but you know sometimes things like that happen and we still had a great time, i mean we were together right? so we went to ihop! haha. pancakes it was! we had the most entertaining waitress. she was having a hard night because when she gave us our check she said she was going to the back to have a "drink". =) and we even got home early and had time to watch lost on DVR. so all in all we had a great night.

happy heart day!

well it is that day you get to eat lots of candy and be with the one you love. or at least that is how it is supposed to be. josh was in iraq the last two valentine's day's (umm....two thanksgivings, christmas's, new years, valentines days, anniversaries, birthday's.....you get the picture! ), so as you can imagine i am pretty excited this year! josh surprised me this morning with a date planned! i haven't been on a date in....forever! we are going to cheeve's bros steak house in temple, tx! (ya there aren't any nice restaurant's here in harker heights... just taco bueno!! haha!) i am such a lucky wife! I love my husband! so, today is filled with valentine's parties for kate and will first. i remember having so much fun as a kid passing out valentine's. =) i hope all of you have as great of a day as i am having!

finally!!!!

the new laura kay photography website is finally here. i am so excited, i hope all of you check it out! it has been lots of fun putting it all together but i am glad it is done. of course it will be updated all the time but the hard part is the initial process. so some new things to the site are the way cool featured gallery which is a fun way to see more from one session. i also love the shopping cart! that will make it easier for you guys to place your portrait session orders. the calendar section will be really useful so new clients can check my availability. but be sure to email me even if i am booked because i would love to hook you up with an associate! lets see...what else... oh ya i also decided to put my full price list up for all future clients to see and for all of my current clients who misplace their price sheet. =) well that is all i can think of for now. let me know what you guys think!

i was really touched by this wedding. i love love love weddings but this one was really special to me. melissa and andres have been dating for 14 years! since high school they have been best friends and just watching them you can tell how much they love each other. melissa did her own hair and makeup and chose to get dressed all alone, except for lisa and i of course! it was so calm and relaxing. it was wonderful!!! the ceremony was at the chapel of st. basil then the reception was at bering and james art gallery in montrose. allison and chad also had their reception a few weeks before and it was so fun to see how different the gallery can be decorated. i love that place! another amazing wedding!!!!

it's almost here!

ok so i wanted to give a little update. i have been working really hard and it is all about to pay off. the site is in the process of switching over, so there may be some down time. i expect it will happen while we are sleeping but just incase you go to the site and it is not there, don't worry! =) i am very excited for this and i will let you guy know when it is up and running!

working on a new website

well it is that time for me to update my website. most of you know i love updating! the new site will be launching very soon. i am finalizing all of the details. i have put many hours into it so far. there will be some really cool new features that i am so excited for. there will be a shopping cart for all of the client galleries. also there will be a featured section. in there, i will put featured weddings and e-shoots. that just shows images all from one event unlike in the regular galleries it is a mixture. i am so excited for this change and i am loving putting it all together. here is a sneak peek of a screen shot!

john + cassie

john and cassie were married in the morning at the 2nd baptist chapel. john's dad and pastor hurley preformed the ceremony. they had a brunch reception with mimosas at the junior league. it was so fun shooting all in daylight. so, john got to plan the honeymoon and it was all a surprise to cassie until they were on the plane! all she was told was what type of weather to pack for. i can't wait to find out where they went!

chad + allison

this was a fun wedding. first we went to white salon where allison works. then we went to the hotel for allison to get dressed. the ceremony was at Immanuel Lutheran. but before the girls arrived at the church the boys started causing trouble. first they pulled the fire alarm and the fire truck had to come out, then they changed the church info sign. crazy boys! after the ceremony we stopped at someburger for few pics. chad keeps someburger on speed dial so since it was on the way to the gallery it seemed like a perfect stop. finally they concluded the night at bering and james art gallery. lots of driving and lots of fun!

well this was the last wedding of 07. mary and jim were married at the houston heights fire house on new year's eve. it was a simple yet elegant ceremony and party. mary had a wine theme with her table settings and decorations. celebrating their first countdown new year kiss was really fun! I am so glad they will have that picture forever.

carley and jerimie are one of the most happy couples i have ever seen. they have such a sweet innocence about them. they had so much fun with the whole wedding. i love the picture of them cutting the cake becasue that is how they were all day just laughing and loving being married! they saw each other on the lawn inf ront of the chapel of st. basil and that was so sweet. they had their reception at the st. regis and it was beautiful. they also had one of my favorite dj's, rockin robin! it was a great wedding!

joella and micah were married on the most beautiful day of the whole year. well in texas at least. it was perfect especially being the weekend before christmas. and a good thing too since it was on the golf course at northgate country club. it was so beautiful. they saw each other before the ceremony and exchanged their gifts. it was so nice and romantic. joella had everything so well thought out and it was all so pretty. they even had an espresso bar! so cool!

new year's eve

well i am off to shoot mary and jim's new years eve wedding. so fun! also i wanted to share with all of you that i just found out today that my husband josh is coming home tomorrow afternoon!!!!! it has been a long 15 months that he has been in Iraq and we are so ready to have him home. i will share some of his cool pics soon. what a happy new year!

merry christmas!!!

wishing you all a merry christmas and a happy new year! the year is almost over and yet there is still so much to do. today is joella and micah's wedding then tomorrow i am moving our stuff back into our house. the 29th is carley and jeremie and then new year's eve is mary and jim. all that and three or four days after the new year JOSH WILL FINALLY BE HOME!!!!! we are so excited! this has been such a great year but i am looking forward to 2008 with my husband! merry christmas everybody!

aaron + amanda

amanda and aaron were married last saturday in the freezing cold random houston day. funny this weekend is in the 70's. they were married at champions forest baptist church in the chapel and the the reception was at champions country club. it is so beautifully decorated for christmas. the black and white was beautiful and perfect! amanda and aaron are so fun and we really enjoyed spending their day with them.

so this shoot was so fun. this was melissa's bridal shoot and she bought a 2nd dress and brought andres along!!! they had so much fun doing this together. they are getting married at the end of jan. these guys are so easy to take pictures of they are so comfortable and in love with each other.

will's christmas program

will's christmas program was last night so i thought i would share some pics. he was so cute you could even hear his voice belt out over the whole church! i love my little will! he did such a good job.

monet

so kate's class was learning about the artist monet this week. they were taught what makes monet different from the other artists. they were shown that monet paints in dobs and short brush strokes and not huge lines (which most kindergardner's do). so they had a special day to go outside int his beautiful weather and pain a landscape picture using what they learned about monet. it was so interesting to see these little minds work. they had so much fun and they learned something way cool!

talida + tim

here is talida and tim. they live in NY but are getting married here, and we did these over their thanksgiving visit. they are so fun! we went to antidote coffee shop then just a gray wall. YES that is him jumping!!!! so funny!!!!! then we used java java's graffiti wall then an old church. I love the heights we stayed all with in about a 2 mile radius and each spot i have never shot at before! most of you know how much i like to find cool new locations. i love my job!!!!

kris + tammy

tammy and kris were married on the 10th of november in conroe. it was a peaceful and perfect fall day. this wedding was laid back and truly enjoyable. i loved these pumpkins tammy carved out. and all of the invitations and programs and decor tammy did too! she is so creative and it paid off. we love these guys!

here are some of my favorite images from chris and melanie's beautiful wedding in galveston. this was so well put together i was loving it! the wedding had an asian inspired theme that harry rice inc. created. the ceremony was on the garden terrace at moody gardens and the reception was in the atrium. red and pink paper lanterns , tall red draping and 8 foot red and white designed imagery set the mood. chris's company ph designs created all of the invitations, place settings, image panels, and probably a million other tiny details that amazing all matched! I love this band! grady gaines and the texas upsetters were amazing as always! alia with belle of the ball made sure this day went perfectly! this wedding was amazing! we loved being a part of chris and melanie's day.

this gorgeous wedding was at barton creek resort in austin, texas. melissa and mickey had such a beautiful wedding outside under this pavilion. the hill country is so beautiful!!! everything was perfect, i loved it!

backing up!

ever wonder where your images go after your wedding? well i back up all of the raw files and the final jpegs on dvd and then the final images are also backed up on a hard drive. the final images are in my lightroom library AND backed up with pictage. bet you never knew they were so safe.....

as many of you have figured out.. my website and email has been down for the past 4 days! kim and chad had their wedding at second baptist and their reception at the cohen house at rice. it was so fun and kim looked absolutely beautiful! pastor dave riggle married them and i was so excited because he married josh and i seven and a half years ago. kim and chad are so cute and i was so honored just to be apart of their day. congrats guys!!!

i had so much fun hanging out with the brattain fam. we went to the park and took these fun pictures. you can just see the fun this family has and the love they have for each other. i love it!

here is melanie and chris. we just hung out at their townhouse and took these way fun pictures. then we walked over to do some outside shots at a burned down church and took some city shots too. so fun!!! they are getting married at the end of October. I can't wait for their wedding!!!

here is one of the sweetest couples ever. marisol and eduardo were so awesome today. we just went all over town making each other laugh, it was so fun. they are getting married in october. don't they look so cute?

meet amanda and aaron. they are getting married in december. this shoot was fun we just got in the car and came up with ideas along the way. so fun. we ended up finishing just before the big down pour on friday afternoon.

i can not believe how fun this wedding was. kristene hand made everything there and it was amazing! she put so much effort into this day and it was perfect. ok so little surprises around every corner. first i loved this old limo, then at the reception they had the best first dance i have ever seen, then kristene gets a mic and sings to ronald. i got teary eyed! i love these guys! i am so honored to know them.

new music

i have been working so hard lately trying to find the perfect new music for my site. at last i found it! dave barnes is an awesome musician in nashville and i fell in love with his music the first time i heard it. thanks to my friend jami in nashville i got permission! these two songs i chose remind me of new love and that new love dosen't have to fade away. i have been married to josh for 7 years and these songs make me think of him. so i guess these songs make me think of true love. i feel like i have the coolest job getting to meet and take fun pictures of couples starting their lives together. ok enough rambling...check out dave's site , his myspace page and buy his music on itunes!

dayna and eric got married at st. timothy and then had their reception at northwest forest. it was a fun country wedding. dayna was so beautiful and eric wore his uniform for the ceremony. he is in the army and is deploying soon. this was such a fun night! more lucky rain for dayna and eric too!

becky and alex got married on 7.7.07 in galveston at the treemont house. The ceremony was on the rooftop and it was so beautiful because a storm was rolling in and made the sky very interesting. The wind was blowing becky's veil and it was all so beautiful. It is supposed to be lucky if it rains on your wedding day right? well these black clouds triple 7's and lightning must be a good thing. congrats you guys!

here is melissa an andres. we had such a fun shoot in the rain. we went to the black labrador on montrose, main street and the park on holcombe and fannin. it rained off and on but the red umbrella matched melissa's shoes that we were just fine. once again i loved hearing stories and getting to know these guys. so fun! they are getting married in january.

hannah is going to turn one next month. it seems like just a few months ago i took her newborn pictures! we went to the park and played with bubbles, balloons and she got to eat a cupcake. so cute!!!!

ok so here is to all of you that when we do your pictures you are nervous and uneasy at first. i know you warm up 5 seconds into shooting but let me tell you i have not had my picture taken in so long and all of you guys do so much better than i did. Brooke and I went to High school together and i still was nervous in front of the camera. too funny! So now i know how all of you feel at first! HA!

most of my past clients have met my sister lisa, but for those of you that have not, here she is! (truth be know i just took this quick snap shot for her to remember how to fix her new haircut funny!) Such a cool wedding! Brandi and Nathan got married at Hotel Derek and it turned out so fun. It was so modern I was loving it. Joe shot this wedding with me. He is actually my uncle and I know he seems way to young to be my uncle but he is. This Scottish family was so warm and welcoming we felt right at home. The bagpipes playing while they walked down the isle gave me goose bumps. I got Brandi and Nathan for a few minutes and we went up to their room for some laid back shots and they are some of my favorites.

taylor and drew

Taylor and drew are so fun! I just love them! Josh was in town and got to shoot this wedding with me so that made it even more fun! The ceremony was at Duchen and the reception was at the Junior League. I loved the band, they played great music all night. I need to find out their name they were so good. Taylor and Drew did such a great job putting this all together, it was beautiful!!!

bethany and dylan

This was such a beautiful wedding. With Tornado warnings and wind, it made it even more beautiful. Bethany did a wonderful job putting all of this together, I loved the colors, the pomanders and the peacock feathers were perfect. Lisa and I had so much fun, and with every tun there was another beautiful detail to capture. Bethany and Dylan you are awesome!!! I loved it!

Taylor's Bridals

I did Taylor's Bridals at the Jr. League and at Duchen. Taylor is so stunning it made taking her pictures so easy. And that was a good thing because I had to pull my self out of bed sick as could be to get there. But it was so worth it, I love these pictures!

Jacquie & Nathan

Jacquie & Nathan had such a fun wedding. Although I did not know Jacquie or Nathan a year ago Lisa and I saw several family members and friends there. That was fun! There were so many guests and Jacquie and Nathan had the party going strong. I loved being a part of this!

Technical Problems/Time off

Hi! I am on a semi-vacation for the next two weeks. I will be answering emails and phone calls and obviously shooting weddings but that is about it. My Husband is home and we are doing family stuff while he is here. Apparently I am having an email issue with my server so if anyone is not getting a response from me by email, Please Please Please call me. I know I have been slacking on updating the blog and I will be doing that very soon, check back!!!

Brandi & Nathan

I had so much fun on Friday with Brandi & Nathan. We drove around Houston and found some really cool walls for their pictures. I love doing engagement sessions because there is no better way to get to know them. They are getting married on May 25th. Brandi & Nathan are my new friends. =) They are so cute and it is so fun to see how much they love each other! I have such a cool job.

Dayna & Eric

We went to College Station to do these. Eric flew in from Oklahoma. He is in the Army stationed at Ft. Sill. They both graduated from A&M and Eric was in the Core, so we went to the Green to take pictures with the horses. We had so much fun on our road trip.

Bluebonnets

Here is little miss Georgia discovering bluebonnets. It was cold because Houston has crazy weather, but she look so cute sitting in this Texas tradition. I think we are the only state that puts our kids in a field of wildflowers every year to take pictures. Funny.

Rachael & John

This was the most relaxed wedding I have ever done and I loved it! Rachael and John are so cool, I just love them! Their wedding was at Berkshire Plantation in Conroe. It rained earlier that day but it turned out just fine.

4 girls!

This is a family of four girls. Ages 2,4,6,and 8. Each girl was so much alike but so different at the same time. I loved seeing the friendship between them. Such a cute family.

Holly & Kevin

Holly and Kevin had a wonderful outdoor ceremony at Hidden Oaks Bed and Breakfast. We did Holly's Bridal portraits downtown. I loved the outdoor relaxed feel of this wedding. Congratulations Holly & Kevin!

Taylor & Drew

Taylor and Drew just bought their first house so we decided to take pictures there and then around in the heights. They are so fun and I love how much Taylor laughs, you can't help but smile when you are around them.

Amber & Scott

So I love the colors in these pictures. Amber and Scott are getting married in September. This was a fun in town shoot that I love the way all the images turned out.

Bethany & Dylan

Bethany and Dylan are so fun! I loved that they kissed so much. These pictures so such romance and I love it! Their wedding is in May so keep a look at for their wedding pictures!

Valerie & Mike

They had their wedding at the beautiful Treemont Hotel in Galveston. It was so nice to be out of the city. Lisa and I enjoyed these families so much. Every one was so nice and welcoming and the pictures are just Beautiful. Congrats Valerie & Mike!

Campbell

Campbell is my new little friend. She is such a cutie and I had so much fun getting to know her. She is such a girly girl. She loves her purse and her boots so fun! Ok so I have had so many baby sessions lately! Fun!

March 7th

So I did a mass baby shoot this day. My sister in law and eight of her friends brought their kids over and I shot all day long. It was fun. Here a some from the shoot. I don't even think I could pick out a favorite if i tried, they were all so cute. Ok Hannah my niece is adorable, but I am a little partial. =)

This is the Kirkpatrick family. Shane, Jennifer, Simon, Eli, Hailey, and Jonah. And Caleb Rex is on his way. This is one of my first weddings and I am still taking their pictures. I love getting to see my clients start families. My job is so fun!

The birth of Ryan Grace

I had the great honor of capturing the first breath of little Ryan's life. This was truly an amazing moment. Being there and getting to witness the great miracle of life was breath taking. Ryan Grace was born on March 2nd. Miss Regan is such a proud big sister.

Krippel Family

This is little cowboy is John Caleb. We did pictures of their family and a few cute ones of John Caleb in is hat. He was such a pleasure to take pictures of. I am so glad to know this family.

Maloy Family

This is such a cute family. Colton is 7, Bailey is 4 and Tessa is 1. They are so sweet to each other and I loved having them at the studio.

Rachael & John

Meet Rachael & John. I love this couple they are so funny I laugh so much every time I am around them. Engagement sessions are always so much fun but this was a blast! There are so many great pictures from this session but I will share a few. You will also see them plastered on the site. I love these guys. Sweet Caroline

So this is little Caroline. She is such a sweet baby. She was four months old she just wanted to suck her little thumb all day for me. She has the prettiest eyes. I love little babies!

Valerie's Bridals

This was such a fun day. We went around on the Strand and at the Treemont. We even went in to La King's Old time Ice cream Parlor. Valerie has so much fun in her red high heals.

Shana & Craig

These two had such a fun wedding. Another rainy day but, hey it is January in Houston! So I loved this wedding because of the fun traditions. Shana's dad put a penny in her shoe, I haven't seen that in a while! And when it was time for Craig to be blindfolded and "go get the garter" they had the best man sit on Shana's lap to try and fool Craig with his leg. I thought for sure it would not work but man was I wrong! Craig even gave a little toe nibble! That was the most hilarious thing I have seen is a very long time. Such a good laugh! Thanks Shana & Craig for being so wonderful!

Rainy day turned beautiful...

Weather did not get in the way for Shana and I this day. Shana looked so gorgeous and we had so much fun riding in golf carts to get through puddles, and these beautiful portraits are a perfect result. Thanks to her sister Holly, her mom, her aunt and her grandma she had so much help. Beautiful Bride, beautiful day, beautiful pictures. Thanks Shana for being so fun and thank you for all of your help ladies!

Kristene & Ronald's Engagment

Kristene and Ronald are such a fun couple! We did this shoot on Christmas eve eve. I kept thinking if we are having a blast now, I can't wait for their wedding in August. You can just see the love between these two, and that they like to have so much fun together.

Merry Christmas!

I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I am on "Vacation" until Tuesday. I will be enjoying time with my kids and family, I hope all of you are too!

Tamara & Andre

This beautiful little wedding survived rain and traffic. Due to the weather it was was moved indoors at the last minute, but did not skip a beat. It was at the Houston Garden Center in Herman park. The family, good friends, southern food and purple roses made this a fun wedding. Tamara and Andre didn't let the weather get in the way of the most important day of their lives. Tamara has reminded me that sometime simple is better.

Sasha & Kevin

This wedding was so fun! Not only because Sasha is such a good friend of mine but it was out in the country! They set up a large event tent oustide at their ranch in Hearne Texas for the reception. The ceremony was in downtown Franklin at First Baptist Church. Everyone had such a great time partying in the Country! Thanks guys for letting me be apart of your day!

Carolina & Roger

This wedding was filled with Unique traditions. A lot of the family flew in from Venezuela and boy did they like to party! They have a whole hour that they all and I mean all wear masks and blow horns and thow streamers! It was so much fun as soon as it started I had a hat put on my head and they conga line passed right by! Carolina and Roger are so sweet and the were such a pleasure to work with.

Miss Layla, such a cutie!

Doesn't this cutie just make you smile? Layla was an amazing little girl to work with. She was so fun and gave the funniest expressions. At 11 months old she is loving the camera. She made my day! This is why I love doing portraits.
